Trying to drop manual transmission?
I have the engine out.3.0 came out yesterday.Im trying to drop the tranny,Ive unhooked everything I can see and am going to drop it out the bottom along with cross member and transfer case.I also removed the sway bar.I just removed the shifting knobs and am wondering if those long shift shafts also come off to little nubs,or do I remove the bolts around the base of the shift levers?I dont see any way to drop it with those shafts on.

the tranny goes in and out with the shifters out. I would reccomend if youre putting the motor back in, put the tranny and motor back in together. That way you can torque all the bolts down correctly etc.

Im working alone,best jack placement?
I'm doing this alone.Whare would the best placement for the floor jack be?The cross member doesn't look good because it seems to far back.Is there a balancing point? The middle doesn't look good cuz that transfer case looks heavy.Straps???

Hmm doing that with one floor jack will certainly be a challenge...i did it with a motorcycle jack. People that use floor jacks use two...you could try supporting the front with a jack stand and lowering the rear, then strap the tranny to the jack and "pull" from the front of the tranny. Also mine didnt fit under the frame rails....i had to jack up one side of the body and pull the tranny out.

I do have another floor jack in my shed.
I have a smaller floor jack I will go get,(annoying fifty foot walk)I'm not only doing this alone but the truck i solo its on my front lawn (that's how us white trash roll here in Carver Ma.) so once the weight of the tranny is on the jacks its gonna gig right in and be tough to move.No I don't have plywood its under my sons 78. Cobra musting supporting my four jackstands.Going to get the other jack.

I did my whole auto to manual swap by myself with a motorcycle jack, and two floor jacks and a jackstand....with two floor jacks, you'll have to be creative if you're by yourself.

not really, the body of the truck never really gets in the way of the tranny. if you're feeling extra ballsy you could try to make some sort of a "sling" out of two ratchet straps to lower the tranny, then get like a furniture mover of even just like a pallet of wood or something the tranny will rest on and you can pull on. Just remember, be careful and never work under the tranny while its suspended!

Ok jacks are in place.Looks really shady.
I have the smaller floor jack up front with 6 2x6s between it and the tranny, otherwise it wouldn't reach. My much larger jack is under the cross member. My plan is to remove cross bolts slowly lower tranny as I'm pulling large jack back kinda toward driver rear wheel, using the smaller jack and blocks as a fulcrum and just let it tip over as I'm pulling the other one.I'm scared now.

If you aren't worried about tearing up the clutch you can put a jack under the back and slide the trans backwards and let the bellhousing rest on the sway bar. Then you can take and drop the rear to the ground and put the jack under the bell housing and take it out. If you take the transfer case off you can darn near pick the trans out without a jack. Last time I put the trans in my it took 45 minutes to get it all back together. Its really not too bad of a job.

I am worried abou tearing up tranny.
The engines alreadt out,did that yesterday, alone.I'm trying to save the tranny,I don't want to damage it.I think the sway bar will catch the front when the blocks tip over then I can jack that up and pull.
