truck makes a weird ticking noise underneath
my truck makes a weird ticking sound ever since i bought it, after the mechanic swapped engines. at first i thought it was the engine. i listened around the engine bay and it sounded normal. i go underneath the truck and it makes a loud ticking sound. i get someone to rev the truck. i hear the engine going faster and the ticking sound doesnt speed up. do u guys think this is exhaust related? i dont think the mechanic put any exhaust gasketts on the flanges.

i dont know if he put them on, i didnt ask him. he did the engine swap for about 400 so im not complaining. what spots of the exhaust need gaskets? like off the crossover pipe. maybe that's why i get bad mpg driving like granny.

the engine swap was done by a apprentice mech at his house. i dont think he stuck new gaskets in when he unhooked the exhaust, because he didnt charge me for it. he gave me a receipt of what he bought and gaskets arent there. ill try to post a vid tommorow

I have a exhaust leak at the downpipe flange. It is very annoying.
If you stick your head in the drivers fender area you should hear it loud and clear. You should replace the crush gasket 90917-06041 $8.75
I would replace the 3 lock nuts also the one on the bottom is a little tricky to get to, you will need a swivel socket.

Hey guys, new to the forums, but I think algranger had a good point. You say the ticking doesn't speed up as someone gives the motor some gas, with an exhaust leak, you'd hear the sound get louder as more pressure is being pushed through.

theyre pretty good even though i barely offroad at all. they came with the truck when i bought it. theyre not that loud compared to other tires i have run. in the mud theyre not that bad for a mudder and in ice they are better than others with the little siping. well there is a hole in the flange of the cat or in the cat. it ticks pretty loud around there. i have to take off that heat shield to check it out. the rest of that ticking sound is coming by the downpipe flange i think.

Hm. Well, I would definitely check out that cat, you can generally pick up a universal cat fairly cheap. $40-100+ bucks. If there's a flange at that down pipe, pull it apart and see if there is a gasket in there, it's possible he re-used your original gaskets and he split it tightening the flange. Those are only a couple of bucks for a new exhaust gasket. Best of luck!
