even in parking lots when i do a sharp turn the truck clunks when i turn right. when i sometimes turn right to go onto a rd it also clunks not clicks. you guys think its a cv, ball joint

i dont think its the pitman arm cuz it only clunks turnign right, even when i turn onto another street, so thats not a sharp turn of the wheel so it cant be steering stops. in the parking lots then yes its steering stops, but the thing that worries me is that it clunks while im on the road.

Grease up steering stops front and back of your IFS and if it's still there you have other issues.

its not the steering stops, i see the rubber covers on them, i dont think i turn sharp enough to touch steering stops while driving on the road

I would check the ball joints & wheel bearings.

Jack one wheel in the air just a few inches, (chuck the rear wheels & use jack stands please)!
grab the wheel with one hand on top pushing and one hand at the bottom pulling repeatedly. check for play, look at the upper & lower ball joints.

You can check the inner & outer tie rods too. grab the sides of the wheel & do the same thing. see if any steering parts are worn.

Repeat at the otherside.

Mine does this sometimes when im in 4wheeldrive, but only when im in reverse!!

if, while you're turning, there is also any vertical movement (read: bumps) it might be the sway bar. i had that same issue, one side of the sway bar had broken loose and was grinding. i couldn't even see it when someone else was driving and had to take eveything apart to realize what it was.

My steering stops had the plastic caps on them, visually, but still made a noise at full lock.

They wear out in the center. The cap is still there, but the middle is worn through and it is metal on metal. Check that first, easy, cheap fix.

my truck makes a noise when i'm turning sharp in a parking lot, or when doing a u-turn. i thought it was the tie rod ends, but who knows, all the suspension on my truck is stock aside from the shocks. i guess i'll find out what it is when it breaks

thanks for the sway bar info. yeah on one side the sway bar end is loose and moves around. so that must be the problem, i forgot that the last owner changed stuf like ball joints 15,000 miles ago.

Remove the sway bar! The trucks don't need it. Makes for a much smoother ride!

man, Jay, I removed mine, and found myself putting it right back on within 3 months...

just too much body roll for my liking... even with the t-bars torqued a little...

you'd be surprised how much the sway bar helps in a crosswind or when a semi passes by in the oncoming lane at 65 mph.

i removed a sway bar on a fullsize and it leaned much as the yota with a sway bar. ill take it off to see if that caused the problem.
