truck hesitates and back fires 22re

hey guys just got my engine in after a month and now it hesitates and back fires
im shure people have asked these questions before any sugestions as to where i can get some ideas as to what i did wrong
well the engine i used was a 22r and my truck is a 90 22re have hooked up all sencors and grounds only thing i can think is timing

It sounds like you're running lean off idle.
Not 100% sure if this would cause your problem but the 20r is ~2200cc and the 22R/RE is ~2400 cc's. Considering the EFI on the 90 would be programmed to deliver fuel at a rate for the larger engine, there is a large possibility that your problem is there. You would have to at least recalibrate the air-fuel meter for the lesser air-flow requirements of the 20r- probably relieve some of the tension on the spring inside the afm so it opens more easily.
And definitely make sure the timing is set properly.

thanks for the info man but i used a 22r not a 20r but ill check the afm to make shure

doh! sorry. check the valve adjustment, vacuum leaks, TPS too just to be sure.

ok thanks man i know my tps is bad cause it revs up and down

fluctuating engine speeds does not necessarily mean a bad TPS.
It could be a vacuum leak, O2 sensor, coolant temp sensor...

oscillating engine speeds = air in the coolant line ?
