Truck dies in drive/reverse
I have a '95 p/u w/ the 22re. Auto trans, 2 wheel drive.
my timing chain wore thru the timing cover and that where the hell began. weeks, dollars, and tears later, its sitting at my mechanics shop. I took it to the shop for an engine r&r because I dont have stuff to do it myself.
Now, it seems to run fine in park but dies in any gear but nuetral.. if you hit the gas you can get it to move forward but has very limited power. The people I took it too are pretty unfamiliar w/ auto trans and Im afraid it might have something to do with the torque coverter.
whats goin on here guys?

The timing being "way off" could definitly cause youre problems. The timing should definitley be set with a decent timing light and make sure you jumper the terminals to get base timing and go from there.

There's not really much they could've done wrong changing the engine out. Presumably they'd re-use your old flexplate and torque converter on the new engine so things should be fine that way.
If the shop simply put a timing light on and set the timing without jumpering the proper terminals in the diagnostic connector, your timing will be retarded. So I'd say like fishon1213 said- "make sure you jumper the terminals" (Te1/E1 or similar) in the diagnostic plug under the hood and set the timing correctly.

well for now the problem has resolved itself...which makes me nervous. it still has the check engine light on.
I drove over an hour last night and it seems basicly perfect.
I hope it lasts long enough for mr to save up and drop a new tranny in it.
thanks guys.
