Truck dies after a minute, fuel pump relay rapidly clicking..

86 4runner 22re.. Truck died on me last week on the freeway, the circuit opening relay aka fuel pump relay started rapidly clicking and the truck subsequently died.. Took aprt the relay and it was heavily corroded inside.. Ordered a new relay, put it in, about a minute or two into driving it around it starts rapidly clicking and dies again.. New denso fuel pump was.put.in about a year ago too.. Any ideas?

The COR is held closed by the FC signal from the VAF. In your case, since you just replaced a damaged relay, I would suspect the connection RIGHT AT the COR. The FC line is pin 4 of the relay socket, the wire is G-Y. It is active-low (the VAF grounds the wire when air is flowing).

You may need to work your way back to the VAF; pin 1 on the connector.

If you decide to remove the plug to the VAF:

You do know telling someone to never remove those screws will just tempt them to do it all the more.

You're idling at about 800-850, right?

It turned out to be a short in the AFM harness.. After reading scopes reply and looking at the AFM, before I even started to screw the plug out, I noticed the harness was torn down a little lower, pulled it part and lo and behold I had an exposed wire.. Dunno how it happened but it was open and the wire was split.. Stripped it, Patched it up, wrapped the harness back up, and its been running great all day..

I unscrewed those screws before looking through threads once....bought a new MAF.

Good Times, I done the same thing, turned out that the MAF was the problem anyway, so it all worked out for me, lol
