Unhappy Trouble with my oil pressure switch.

I have a 1994 Toyota 4x4 extended cab with the 22-re engine. My oil pressure guage was all over the place and I was told I should replace the switch. I went to Autozone and got a replacement but it isn't the same as what's in there. At least I don't think it is the same. The new one is pretty small. The thing I think it replaces is much bigger and has a brass housing around it. The threads where it attaches to the block look the same and the clip will attach to it. Are aftermarket replacements smaller or did I just get the wrong part. I am rebuilding a rebuild from he77 and I could sure use some help before something else goes wrong.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

There are two different oil pressure senders for the 22re one is for a gauge and one is for a light. Dont plug in the sender and turn the truck on untill you are sure you have the right one or you could fry your gauge. Post a picture of the two if you can.

Welcome to Yotatech Jeff!!!

There is two different senders for the 22R-E. If you have the SR5 cluster which has an actually gauge for oil pressure and a tach then you'll need the "bell" shaped sender. The regular gauge cluster which just has an oil light is a smaller unit.

SR5 Guage switch:

Standard Guage Light Switch:

The first picture looks like its for an oil light and the second picture looks like one that goes to a gauge. I think autozone sold you the wrong one. Could you post the part number?

I'm not sure what the part number is and my truck is at a different house. I'll try to get it and post it tomorrow. Thanks.

Acording to autozones website and the part number that part is for a oil light and not an oil gauge. Looks like you will have to take that part back and get one that is meant for a gauge.

Install a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Better than both.
