I am Taking my 1992 pickup mudding this weekend. However one of my friends warned me that the last time he went thru deep mud with his T100, mud entered his tranny thru the vent or something and burnt up his clutch. His T100 has a 3vze jus like my pickup, but are the trannys the same? Do I have to worry about this?

Yes, same tranny. R150F.

There is a vent at the top of the bellhousing, as well as the large opening on the pass. side for the clutch release fork. Both could, potentially, allow for a significant amount of mud/debris to get in there. More so if one or both of the rubber boots that partially cover those holes aren't intact/in place.

I've been pretty deep in the mud with mine(over the top of the headlights is pretty deep in my book)and haven't had any clutch troubles as a result. Keeping the stuff out of the airbox and from clogging up the radiator fins...that's another story.

My advice...carry several many gallons of clean water to be rinsing windows and other parts off/out and for keeping the windshield washer fluid reservior topped off. As being able to see where your going makes driving alot easier/safer.

Just remember this, all the hours you'll spend getting the mud out of every conceivable nook and cranny, IS worth the 15 minutes of fun it took to put it all there.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, bring a beach towel(or 2) and a set of clean clothes including shoes/boots. Very handy!

And once your in mud or water don't touch the clutch, leave it alone until your through.

Not sure haha just what I was always taught. Something to do with mud and other debris can't get between the clutch and flywheel.

There's a vent on a manual tranny? That's new by me...

Just make sure your dust boot and drain plug are 100% and the plate is on the back of the engine...

And also, it's not like trannys are anemic to water and mud... Put yourself in its position. It takes a good while, or it has to be sitting in mud a good while before it can get in.

A quick blast, and you won't find any mud on the thing. Plus, it's a good 2 ~ 3 feet up and under the truck.

Transmission & Transfer Case Breathers and Shifter Boots.

Bumping this old thread...

So I pulled the shift cover boots and looked for the breathers referenced in the picture above. Mine does not have them (89 Toyota Pickup). Does anyone know if they did not install them on certain models? Or maybe they're located elsewhere??

Btw, I easily found and upgraded the front and rear differential breathers, but no luck with the transmission and transfer case.

Does anyone know the part # for that rubber vent boot for the bell housing? I cant seem to find it and mine is missing.
