transmission/tras case woes...

I picked up a project 94 4x4 22re 5spd pickup. When i picked it up it did not run and needed a motor. Now that it is running I cannot get the rear wheels to drive. With the transfer case in neutral i can put it in gear without the clutch and rev it. When revving there is no signal to the spedometer. When I put the transfer case in 4H I can get the front output to spin and the truck will actually drive. I am new to transfer cases and am not sure how to figure out exactly what is wrong with it, either transfer case problem or transmission. Hopefully it is something stupid that has been overlooked, but I am quite lost right now. Any advice/tips/trouble shooting methods? Thanks in advance.

your t-case has 4 posistions: 2 hi, 4hi, neutral, and 4 low. In that order the make a U shape 2hi being the top left of the u and 4 low being the top right. make sure you are pushing the stick into 2 Hi
