Looking for help on how to remove the top two bolts for my 5 spd transmission on a 88 4 runner 22re. I am sure there must be a secret on how to get those bolts out. Have everything disconnected its sitting on the transmission jack just need to figure out how to loosened the top bolts. Let me know how you have done it. Thanks your help will be much appreciated

my on my '92 4runner, i can reach the top 4 tranny bolts from underneath the hood (my crossover is relocated)..you might try that? even thought you're 22re..lol

Yeah, i had a 2.5ft. extension to get the top 2 out on my 92 runner.

Drop the rear cross member and long extensions is also the only way I figured out how to get to them. I perfer the impact gun for removel as well. I have tired using the regular ratchet and the torsion effect on the extensions always scares me. So I bought impact extensions and they come out pretty good now.

With your transmission on the jack .

I sometimes loosen the motor mounts

drop the trans being careful not to smash anything on the firewall or pull wires or hoses to far.

At this point they are easy to see and with long enough extensions you can get the socket on square using a ratchet or impact .

Try and do this with the fewest amount of extensions as they do tend to flex. I use the 3/8th" air ratchet to run the bolts back in

If your sway bar is still on I can`t remember if this will not allow you to get the trans down low enough or not.

I do know it makes it alot easier to get the trans out and in with the sway bar removed

don't loosen your motor mounts..lol

you aint gotta do any of that..it's perfectly easy to get at them with the right amount of extensions and a u-joint..or from up top!

I had one of those ratchets just for that .

Lets just say the pin through the ratchet was much weaker then then the corrosion on the M12 bolt

long extension with a u-joint and alot of patients is the way I do it from the bottom. Keep i mind you might want impact extensions and sockets and not your standard extensions and sockets.

It does help to have a second person there holding the socket on the bolts from the top so you don't wind up pulling your hair out. LOL.

If those bolts have never been removed before, they WILL break several extensions and sockets if not using impact ones.

92 Toy on here has personally seen me undo trans bolts. As well as I used to work at a trans shop and pulled many this way. Of course there you got a lift and real impacts but....

Yo, put two of the bottom bolts back in and the top ones will hopefully just spin out once you bust them loose.
