Transmission Problems
Ok, so my original thread was deleted on this, so here i am again.
I have a 90 Toy P/U Ext. Cab 4x4 22-RE AUTOMATIC with 160k
Just bought it and got it running only to find these problems.
Its stuck in 1st gear and will not come out.
Today i went and got the Transmission Filter/Gasket Kit and put that in.
The filter that was in there was a little dirty but not that bad as to where it should have been causing problems. But i went ahead and put it all together and added more fluid...NO CHANGE.
And i dont know if this will make a difference but the speedo isnt working? not sure if its not hooked up or a sensor is bad but just thought i would throw that out there.
please help me as im starting to get aggravated with this damn truck

Just wondering...
been searching the forums, trying to find someone with a related problem and ran across a possible one..
when i first crank it up, it almost wants to die (kinda like flooding it) unless i hit the gas, then it runs fine with no skip/sputter or anything.
could the TPS sensor be bad?
EDIT: just for the record, it has a completely new tune up done as well

Sorry i should have said that i can go into reverse and park no problem,
but when i put it in drive it stays in first gear.
the overdrive light hasnt been blinking, nor the CEL or A/T Fluid light, when i turn they key they all light up but once it is cranked up nothing shows.
do i need to click the overdrive button so it will come on? that way i can see if its blinking?
havent owned a toyota in 5 years, so this is all relatively new to me.

update:
i couldnt get the od light to come on so i knew the bulb had to of be blown, tore the dash completely apart, and yep its blown. so i put a good bulb in and followed the steps in how to check for codes.
this is the link for breakdown of the tranny
http://www.toyotaholics.com/support/...sp?TOPIC_ID=19
and how to pull the codes is here
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...45diagnosi.pdf
apparantly its saying everything is normal becuase the O/D light and the CEL blink over and over and over and over and never stop.
but its still not working. any ideas?

I've been having transmission problems as well. After I connected a wire to the diagnostic port, like your link displayed, I had to count how many flashes the OD light did. It blinked 4 times followed by two blinks after a small break. Than blinked 6 times followed by two blinks. It can be a little confusing until you've done it a few times. The CEL is just going to flash continuously until the wire is removed.
