Transmission problem and Carb

I have two problems with my transmission in 1986 toyota 4x4 5 speed. 1. it is grinding in reverse after replacing clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch disc. 2. is 4x4 shifter it won't shift into 4lo. It goes it in 2h but when i shift into 2nd it knocks it out 2h. Only thing it will drive in 4hi. I had to take both shifters in to take out the transmission. Now to the carb .My engine is 22r which is a carb . To make a long story short the guy i bought it from went mudding in a lake bed with out a carb cover. So i was considering to rebuild the carb or put Weber carb on it but Weber is expensive . Which one should i do ?

The transmission probably just needs a new shift seat bushing. The transfer case sounds like a bigger problem. Once it is in 4 high, will the shifter move right to left or is it stuck on the left side and only move front to back?

I do not have experience with Webers, but rebuilding the factory carb would be cheaper if you do it yourself. It will run just fine if it is set up properly.

Will the transfer case move up to neutral? I am thinking maybe that side of the linkage is stuck or something. If nothing is blocking the shifter, than the linkage is probably stuck and the transfer case would more than likely need to be disassembled. If 4L engages, but the truck does not move, then it is most likely the gears are stripped or something.

If you have enough play in the transmission to hit the transfer case shifter, more than likely your shift seat bushing needs to be replaced. They are cheap and easy to do. How did you fix the 4Lo problem?

A piece of metal between the shifter and the 4x4 shifter that holds the boot in place. Fix the 2hi had shifter in backwards.
