Transmission Problem

Ok, last night I went fishing and after we were done fishing and begin to start our truck but as soon as we back off, the truck will not engage so it won't move so I put it on "D" [drive] and it also will not engage, it goes to all the gear that I try and will not engage at all. So after thiniking I might of have low trans. fluid so I put 2 qts. of trans. fluid in and still the same. I always have this O/D blinking but sometime it will be off but as for right now it is now constantly blinking so I think this is the problem? Well I check the code for the trans. and it is code 62 which could be those solenoid, it might of died, but I tought that if it died you cannot move forward if it is on "D" position? But it also cannot move on "R" or to any gear that I try, it will not engage at all. So is it just that solenoid problem? I was thinking buying the parts from toyota and fix it there cause the truck is still at the lake.

So after this horror I got my brother come and pick us up and we also did pull the truck with the V6 Mazda MPV and it did pull very well, the 4runner should have power like the MPV does, so we towed it to this one grocery store so hoping it won't get damage by crazy people. So today we are trying to tow it closer to our town and let the tow guy handle from there, trying to make it cheaper than towing were it at, about 1 half hour or so on. So let see how it go, we're towing it at night so the road will not be that congesting

By the way does anyone know any cheap towing company from around Galt, CA and Sacramento, CA?

Will it move in 4wd low? I've heard of a couple guys with a similar problem that were at least able to get going in 4wd low then shift up to high.

Do you mean that you've been driving the vehicle for some time with the OD light blinking ????

Yup, most likely.
The best thing would have been to see what was going on when the OD light started blinking.
Could be one or more of the solenoids, or could be worse.

:Ok guys thanks, I got the truck safely home. We use the mazda MPV to towed it all the way home. Was suprise that it towed very well. I assume one of those solenoid is dead so now I am throwing the 5 speed instead of that auto, I had enough of those auto trans on these truck, 4 speed auto? hahaz!

MT_goat, ok I got it to 4wd low and it move but when I switch it to 4wd hi it will not engage but it help though, thx. Now all I have to do now is pull that auto out and swap it with the 5 speed transmission.

That's going to be interesting as you'll need the tranny and xfer case. The xfer case and tranny (in the case of the auto tranny) are basically one piece.
You'll also have some wiring to mess with (NSS override, etc.,)

The auto trannies on these 4Runners/trucks are actually very good, strong, and reliable, assuming one takes care of 'em...
