Transmission Installation Hint
Well, we just wrapped up a tranny swap in our 86 4runner. It's a W56 5 speed. As many of you probably know, when the transfer case is attached, this is one heavy tranny to try to muscle into place. We didn't have a transmission jack and had to get creative. I used a floor jack under the bell housing and laid a block of 2 x 4 across the console shifter opening in the floor inside th truck. Around the 2 x 4 I ran a cargo ratchet strap under the rear of the tranny and ratcheted the tail up as the front jack raised the bell hsg to align the spline. Worked like a champ although on the first attempt, the lightweight strap tore dropping the tranny!! We switched to a heavier strap and all went very well.

You wanna talk one heavy MOFO, try installing an A340H on a gravel driveway with just a small trolly jack. The key is to have the token "fat guy" to bench the bellhousing while you jack the rear and keep it level/balanced.
