transfer rear case output q's + VIDs
I started getting bad driveline vibrations. Both ujoints were toast, but I notice play on my transfercase rear output.
Here's some vids of my transfer case.
http://walk.darktech.org:8444/yotatech/transfercase/
The first vid shows the transfer case and then compares it to the diff.
2nd video is just my transfer case, 3rd is the rear diff.
In both cases I have a small amount of rotation play, but no lateral or vertical play. On my transfer case side though, my nut feels loose. It's still staked but it can rotate very loosely.
Also when I dropped my drive shaft, a 1/4 pint of gear oil came out. Is this normal or is the oil seal gone, or just too loose? I read you are supposed to put some silicone on the threads to stop this. (step 105 http://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/gu...1-gear-install)
I've also been leaking a little oil from the base of the flange at the transfer case. Do I need to replace the oil seal or can I just unstake the nut and tighten back up? Since my nut is still staked does this mean that something internally has the play now and tightening up is only a stop gap measure?
22re, 5speed, is that the RF1A?
cheers

Where did this pint of oil come from?
Rotational play is from gear mesh. Vertical and horizontal play is bad and usually means pooched bearings, but you would have a lot more problems that just bad vibs.
The leaking oil out of your transfer case is from the driveshaft vibrating and shaking oil out of the transfer case.
Clean off the oil with some brake clean or degreaser. Re-install your driveshaft (with the new u-joints) and watch for new leaks. An out-of-whack driveshaft will cause the leaks.

Sounds like good advice. I torqued the nut down and reinstalled. New ujoints and all my vibrations are gone for now... My ujoints were a pain. Most of the caps were seized to the the ujoint and I ended up having to cut them out w/ a grinder. I even managed to break my cheap idler arm remover tool in the process.
Thanks very much. I'll repost if the vibrations come back.
