transfer case shifting problem

ok, i have a 1986 pickup with a 3' body lift. im having a problem putting the truck back into 2 wheel drive. actually broke the shifter off trying to put it back in 2wd. i had to take the top off and pry it back into 2wd. my question is, does anyone else have this problem, and if so what can be done to fix it?? i tryd rolling the truck back and forth but no help. thanks.

I find it is best to do this while moving. Unlock the hubs, jump in and start driving. Then let off the gas and shift back to 2H. If it is a 22RE you have a gear to gear T-case so moving is best.

ok ill try that when i get a new shifter on there. its a 22r, but hopefully rolling will solve the prob.

A 3' Lift, or do you mean 3" ?

oh yeah 3", 3' would be a hell of a lift.

I think the 22R is gear to gear also

On mine I will take it out with the hubs locked, cruising through town doing 20 miles per hour and push in the clutch, comes right out of 4H, and if I want to go back in then clutch while rolling again and right back in it goes. Mine has given me crap comeing out of 4H quiet a bit, but it never seems toi when I am doing like I said above.
