transfer case
Im swapping out my dying 86 auto trans with a 5spd. Do i need to change out the transfer case also? I heard multiple answers from friends, Im about to pick up a used trans with 100k miles. Do I need to get the t case also?

Yeah, get them both. Hopefully they have no metal in oil and no problems. Get the shifters, slave cylinder, clutch fork and TO bearing too.
You may want to replace the trans input and output seal and T-case output seals before your swap.
Marlin's shifter seats and bushings would freshen up the shifting too. Marlin's Eco-seals work great.
I think the drive shaft flange pattern is the same. If not pick up some multi pattern flanges.
If the seller is parting out a truck, try to get the clutch pedal bracket and master cylinder. The hard lines and hose to the slave cylinder too.
You probably already know all this. Just throwing it out there to maybe make your swap a little easier.

You will also need the flywheel, flywheel bolts and a pilot bearing.
I ran a 1600# Marlin clutch. Doesn't feel heavy on the foot and will last forever.
Trans mounting bolts MAY be different lengths? I don't remember.
The Reverse indicator switch on the trans and the 4wd indicator switch on the t-case would be nice to have.
The plate between the flywheel and block may be needed if different than the auto.
I don't remember if the auto had the cast stiffeners that bolt to side of the block.
Also not sure if you will need a different crossmember and mount.
