! Tranny Re-install Tips !
i already did some thread searching and couldn't find much tips on reinstalling the transmission after various tranny work (new clutch etc.)
i'm having a hard time getting the engine and tranny lined up
the engine seems to be tilting down somewhat
the tranny is on a car jack and tied down with ratchet straps and resting on wood
luk pro gold clutch
did not remove flywheel did not resurface
previous clutch was not in bad condition
when i feel the transmission is lined up i push the transmission toward the engine with my legs whilst laying behind the jack and tranny
does anybody have any tips to make this job easier? i already spent 4-5 hours doing just this. . .
thanks

Is the input shaft lining up into the clutch disc splines? Is the shaft just not inserting into the pilot bearing? That's the problem I had, I could get the shaft through the splines but not into the pilot bearing. Finally I called a friend who came over, we ended up tilting the engine some and he used the same method you are (laying down, feet on trans) and it finally went it. You just have to make sure both the engine and transmission are at the correct angles.

thanks again

You used the clutch disc alignment tool when installing the clutch? You can put the transmision in gear and spin the rear out put, the splines might not be lining up. Get it as close as possible then look from the side, make sure the gap between the top of the bellhousing and the engine is the same as at the bottom, if it isnt adjust it.

i also disconnected the exhaust pipe at the cat and am able to use the exhaust pipe connected to the engine to somewhat maneuver the engine around
is there anything else i should be worried about?
thanks for everything

that's the good news
the bad news is the clutch hardly engages. . .
i must have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor before i can put it into gear, and i pretty much have to force it at that. . .
i adjusted the rod on the master cylinder that leads to the back of the clutch pedal but i ran out of rod. . .
does this mean i have to get my flywheel resurfaced?

by the way, i didn't really mean the master and the fly had much to do with each other, i was just asking if it is not my master cylinder or my slave cylinder, could the most likely problem of mine be that something is going on at the clutch?
biggest worry of all is having to drop the transmission again

You'll know if there's air in there. Is it a steady stream coming from the bleeder when you crack it or does it spurt? Anything less than a steady stream shows air. If it's bled and still not disengaging, maybe your throw out bearing is improperly installed. Not sure what piston travel should be, though I'm sure the FSM should have that spec, but I'd see if it's moving properly before yanking the tranny back out.

somewhat soft pedal
have to smash all the way to the floor to put shifter into gear
as soon as i release the clutch pedal a tiny bit, the truck starts to move
the squirt from the slave cylinder was strong enough to spit out and hit my passenger front tire
im dying

truck does not try to die
i drove it around the block
it's just, i must depress the clutch pedal as much as possible before moving into the next gear
i also noticed that the flotation device (black rubber float) inside the master cylinder is missing and now brake fluid comes out of the top of the master cylinder cap. is this normal? must i have the float inside the master cylinder?
maybe it helps hold pressure?
