Ok i have a 90 22re 4x4 ifs. And i think i have a problem with my transmission. It grinds when you try shifting from first to second. Second gear is just hard as all heck to get into. I replaced all clutch parts as well as shifter seat and bushing. Im thinking a synchro is going out in tranny or something. My question is i can get a free 87 22r 4x4 tranny. Are they the same and interchangeable or no?

From what I've read they are interchangeable.
Same block = Same bellhousing= same tranny.

not always was the 87 carbed or efi, was yours add?

the 87 was a 22r so carbed mine is efi both do not have add

You say you changed "clutch parts"... Does this mean MC and SC ?
Seat and bushing...Next thing that would come to mind is a synchro in there fubared from too much grinding and poor shifting

no i did not change mc and sc. Just resurfaced flywheel, new pressure plate, disc, and both bearings. When i bought the truck it was shifting horrible. Could barely get into first you had to force it so i replaced all above and still am having problems.

Ummm if you haven't changed the MC and SC I would start there before the tranny...

ok according to the chart you posted 88 i have a w56 and he has something different. Does that matter and should the differences matter

it seems as though the ratios in the trasmission are the same. i just have heard the W56 is stronger than the G52.

ya i guess you can say that. Dont go by my opinion i dont know for sure. Wait til you hear from people who are more experienced with the 4cyl trannies.

sincal your 56 is a forward shift the 87 w's are top shift and the 87 g's are forward shift so the only thing to worry about is possibly cutting your floor board

ok will do thanks 88. I just want to know if it will mount up have the shifters in the same spot and so on. Its free so i just want to be able to shift and it be smooth not feel like im breaking something everytime i shift

oh well MSR would it be better to have my tranny rebuilt then or could something else be causeing my shifting issues

see if adjusting the master cyl or putting in a new one will change it. Does it seem like the clutch is not fully engaging or is it definately tranny?
