Tranny Help

I have an auto tranny, a340h i believe? I cant get her to shift into o.d. 50mph and im taching 3k... I have narrowed this down to a solonoid or coolant temp sensor, Which solonoid would I need to check? How to check it? can these be cleaned? I got my truck swamped last week, and finaly have everything else working, and I;m thinking I may have some sand or dirt causing a solonoid to stick... I should mention that it shifts fine 1-2 2-3...just no o.d.

Thanks...Jim

haha...found a constant drip on one of the cooler lines...guess that would do it, going out in a bit to see if it just needs to be tightened, dunno why it is all of a sudden leaking, but it is a constant drip..drip..drip, surprised i still have fluid

Any trouble codes?

Actually after filling it up with dirty water, I'm suprised it shifts at all. But yeah a stuck solenoid would be my guess.

It looks like from this: for the OD to work while in drive, both #1 & #2solenoids need to be "off". So maybe one of them is stuck "on".

If it were me and I had the pan off anyway I'd just replace them all. Things as small as lint from a rag can cause problems with solenoids. Have you flushed it good yet?

This may help too:

Heck, here's the whole 93 truck FSM:

Is your light on in the dash? The switch in the handle is garbage and will short causing no OD shift. You could have a blown light in the dash and your switch is bad. Yank all the guts out of the switch and see what you get.

Yeah, have the links for the fsm.. no trouble codes. my problem is different than whats explained in the fsm, When the o.d. light is on.. it "locks up" to 3rd, When I have the o.d. on (light off) it wont lock up to third almost like its trying to shift up...Leads me to believe it's not a solonoid problem, and not likely electrical...I did flush it out,,,used 30 quarts and a pint of seafoam trans tune...fluid is clean and all other shifts are as they were, I got under the truck and watched, and noticed one of the cooler tubes is leaking, seems it has rusted through on top, and i'm getting a constant drip, weird thing is...level reads the same on dipstick, and it wasn't doing this when i flushed. gonna get the new pipes and hope that fixes the problem. Also noticed my oil filer is leaking... water really sucks...LOL Going to snorkel it for next time.
