So planning to put in a trannie cooler, along the lines of those mentioned in forums like https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/b...cooler-126953/. I have 92 xcab 4wd auto. I see that MtGoat, guru of coolers, used a #4454 from: http://www.importperformancetrans.com/coolers.shtml. Want to check before getting one -- ie one that will fit in front of radiator, without doing major surgery. Any thoughts?

Here is mine, got is at the pic a part for 10 bucks. came from a 1991-1995 ford explorer 4.0 V-6. perfect fit. Just make sure to clean it out with some brake clean & compressed air. These are excellent plate type trans coolers.

That's in front of the AC condenser, which is in front of the radiator. But that's probably what you meant anyway hehe.

Lots of guys have fit them in behind the grill (front of AC condenser). The time I looked at putting one there it looked pretty tight but I didn't take off the grill either. I remember one guy that cut the backside of the grill a bit to fit one in better, but I've never put one there. At one time I had two 4454s behind the AC condenser (between the AC cond. and radiator), but you would almost have to take out the radiator to put one there.

Yeah, I definitely want to put it in front of the AC condenser, behind the grill, to maximize the airflow/cooling. I saw that thread about the grill cutting, which is exactly what I'd like to avoid.

That is a good cooler, I just noticed it looks like its made the same as the Tru-Cool LPD coolers are, I can see the built-in cold ATF bypass. See the first 2 plates are used for open flow.

I believe the next size down the 4452 is a little narrower and I believe will fit in there without trimming. Chickenlover used that one and it fit in there really well if I remember right. It was the width of the the 4454 which makes you have to bring it out some and trim the grill.

Does your rig have that extra fan in front of the ac condenser? If not then you can fit an even bigger one than the 4454 in there.

The one that I used required no cutting or trimming. I have used this same cooler on many vehicles & the price is right at 10 bucks! Even though it's a 2wd & I don't plan on driving it hard I still like to play it safe when it comes to keeping the trans cool. There are many options out there, this happens to be mine.

Yeah, turborich, some of ours has an electric pusher fan right there. Which really cuts down on the room.

I didn't know some had an electric fan there. Is that only for 4wd models or was it an option?



Did you need to trim your grille for that cooler to fit or did it make it?

I have the B&B 70268 Installed on my 4Runner. I don't have AC so fitting was no problem. It's this one.

Looking at web site, width dimensions seem be the same for each, i.e. [5 3/4 or 7 1/4] x 11 x 3/4 ... which actually seems narrow enough to fit. There no extra fan in front of the AC condenser, thankfully
