Tramsmisson problems

92 4Runner 3.0 auto 4wd. I drove 20 miles to school on the interstate with no problems but when I got out of class my transmission was having problems. I can put it in drive or reverse and it acts like it's in neutral and just revs up but if I put it in 4lo it'll drive. What could cause these issues?

I checked it today and now it won't drive in any gear 2wd or 4wd. Does that sound like a bad torque converter?

Fluid level is good. It's shifts in gear and try's to go, I can feel the truck start moving forward so i assume the linkage is fine I'll check to make sure though

Does the engine rev fine, and idle correct? Might just be another issue, was the check engine light on before the problem?

Yea runs and idles fine. No check engine light just checked to see if any codes were stored. I seen someone mentioned the tps could cause trans issues so just trying to cross off the easy stuff before I pull the trans

Yeah, my mechanic always says fix the problems you know you have first. sounds like you are on the right track.

Check for transmission codes. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...31diagnosi.pdf
(I assume you have an A340H; it's listed on the door pillar.)
