TPS Question

Can the tps be taken apart and cleaned. I had a thread last week about a code 51 I was getting on a newly rebuilt 3.0. This truck sat for 6 yrs before I bought it and rebuilt the motor. It will crank as long as I pat the accelerator but just revs up the loses power then revs again. I think it's the tps. I pulled the throttle body last night and am going to start cleaning it today. Just wanted to know if you could clean the tps also.
Thanks

unplug the TPS and see if it will rev up all the way. Had this issue yesterday with my 88 pickup 22re and I unpluged the TPS and it worked fine (I know mine is shot, I acid cleaned the whole intake and throttle body and fried it) Also check for a short at the MAF (when I did the intake swap I forgot a wire and it would crank, rev, then die)

the tps cannot reliably be cleaned. you may be able to remove it from the TB and use an electrical contact cleaner on it but I wouldn't gurantee it will work afterwards

if the engine will rev up high then stall but begin revving up again just before it completely dies, it's usually a significant vacuum leak so check the intake manifold, hoses and ducts for any leaks / cracks or missing hoses.

Okay while checking tps with ohm meter I'm not getting the readings I should per the chart I have. So I removed the tps and you can rotate by hand but it does not spring back. As for the ohm readings they are not off much. Any suggestions.

if it doesn't spring back, it's bad.
