So im in the middle changeing my water pump and timingbelt and cant get new belt on. The tensioner is pined back but the new belt is still to tight to fit and when i was trying to do this i remembered the marks on the belt had to line up too but my new one has no marks on it for the cam and crank marks. And when i took the old belt off the marks on the cam an crank were tdc but i dont know if the belt marks were lined up with cam and crank marks. Does this matter? Or did i mess up the have to find tdc befor i put this belt on with no marks on it

Where did you get the belt from?
The marks on the original belt do not have to be lined up as long as the marks on the cam and crank are lined up TDC your good. You could have the wrong belt it has happened to me before.

Well good luck getting the slack right with no marks.... remove the idler bearing between the cam gears and it makes the process a little smoother

The marks on the belt are only there to help with installation, after just 1 rotation all 3 marks will be off a tooth or 2, so don't expect the marks on the belt to line up with the marks on the cams and timing cover or the crank and oil pump.

If it matters to you, you could lay the new belt on the old and make new marks on the new belt, making sure to count the number of teeth between each of the marks, or you could take your chances without the marks and risk being off a tooth; hope those few dollars you saved were worth it.

Like Rerunn said, remove the idler between the 2 cams, install the belt, install that idler, then after making sure everything is lined up correctly, release the tensioner, rotate the crank 2 times and make sure the arrows on the cams are still point directly up (the marks on the belt will now be a tooth or 2 off).

Ok little late got belt on tensioner tight rotated crank twice but my mark on the crank is off 1 tooth and cams are off bye 1 tooth do i have to star over and get all back to tdc

To clarify: do your TDC marks stamped in the cams and crank align back to TDC after the two rotations? That is what matters.
Maybe a pic of each and we can see what is going on.

You'd probably have better luck posting this in the correct forum.

95.5-2004 Tacomas rather than the previous generations -- only those of us here with 3.4 swaps likely have experience.

The crank looks off 1 tooth, the cams look ok but harder to tell from that combined shot rather than a close up of each.

Someone else want to confirm?

Crank definitely looks off a tooth. Cannot tell on the cams from that angle of the pic. Need a pic of each cam straight on from the front.

Yeah definitely off! Appears to be too much slack on the pass side of the belt as well left side if looking at picture. I'd go pickup a Toyota belt just for ease of installation they are almost dummy proof
