TOYOTA decal not sticking to tailgate... cold weather
Anybody a genius at this?
I've used the "wet" method to apply the decal and have it evened up perfectly. Every time I try and pull the back layer off the decal - all of the letters pull up with it. It's exactly 44 degrees fahrenheit here in Seattle and I'm outside.
I brought a hair dryer out to try and warm it up but that just makes the whole decal peel up.
At this point its been on there over an hour and nothing is sticking.
Am I screwed? Gotta go to work in about an hour...

In the meantime, I'm driving my brothers car to work as I figure I can't move mine with the backing still partway peeled off my tailgate. What a pain.

Was the tailgate completely clean? We make and apply these decals all the time. Make sure you pull back the paper as sharp as you can against the surface, not up. Once the backing is off go over it again and rub it down
Also I would not recommend the wet method for these decals. Peel up one corner of the decal and slowly lay it down using a card if its easier for you, I always do it by hand. If there are any small bubbles use the corner of a razor blade or a pin to pop them, and rub them flat starting from the outside working your way in

Ding ding ding. That must've been it. SO annoying. It never stuck. I had to hold the corners down of each letter with a credit card as the entire letter pulled off under it. I have no idea how every letter didn't just shift from its original position. And now that they're all on the tailgate, as they weren't sticky, I have no idea how they're staying on there. Static maybe?
Funny twist: I'm an idiot. I didn't order the correct OEM Toyota lettering for 1987. Now that it's on, it looks funny... so I looked up what I ordered and found out that it's OEM first generation toyota pickup... as in pre 84.
It's giant compared to what it should be.
What do you guys think, take these letters off and give it another go in a garage with the correct 1987 lettering, or stick with the super vintage look?
This is the one that is on my '87. What do the purists think?

You should just peel it off and slap something cooler on there like this http://www.google.com/imgres?q=blitz...9,r:3,s:0,i:95

I got some off him 2 months ago. He was a bit slow on the email response, but he shipped soon as I placed my order. He threw in a bunch of yotatech stickers too which was nice.

I ordered stuff off of him about 6 months ago after I finished painting my truck. He shipped out quick and no problems at all.
I knew he was kind of sick for some reason, but it did not affect my order.
