Toyota 22re code 24 & 31

I have a starting issue with my 1991 Toyota Pickup 4x4 22re. Let me start from the beginning. When I bought the truck it would start fine from a cold start then after about 10 to 15 minutes once warming up and shutting the truck off it would not start back up, just the engine would keep turning over. I would let it sit for another 10 minutes or so then it would fire back up. I pulled the valve cover and checked the timing chain. It was really loose but the guides were in good shape. In the process in taking the harness off from the AFM I took screws off (without knowing it don't come off like that) and pulled out the connector for the AFM and messed it up. I ordered a timing set and another AFM that was tested in good condition and put both timing set and AFM in. I got the engine timed back to specs. The truck still acts up and will not start when warm. I took a paperclip and jumpered Te1 and e1 and pulled the codes 24 intake air tempature sensor and also code 31 air flow meter/circuit. I then cleared the codes by unplugging the negative battery terminal for about 10 mins to see if the codes would come back and they both did. My next step/question is how do I go about fixing this issue?

get your multimeter out and start testing wires... both of those codes point toward the afm, or a short in the wiring between the afm and ecu....

Test all wires or just the wires from the afm plug? and also what are the readings suppose to be? Sorry but I'm kinda lost here.

Could the AFM be bad? The AFM I replaced was a used one but the truck runs the same after replacing it.

Ok here is an update. I have replaced the wires in the wiring harness that are VS VC THA & E2 and it still will not start when warmed up. After letting it cool down it will start back up. The AFM is a used one that I bought from ebay that the seller said was off a running truck. I read about cleaning the AFM with carb cleaner or at least the intake sensor with carb cleaner. I am still getting the code 24 and 31. Any ideas?

I tested the AFM on another toyota pickup 22re and it start perfect when the engine was cold and hot. So I figured that is not the issue. I must have had a short in all the of the wires VS, VC, THA because now I do not get any error codes now those wires are replaced. I also checked the jumped the terminals for the fuel pump test and it works fine. The truck also has a brand new fuel filter on and I checked to be sure that it was not clogged. I also put in new plugs. I check the wires to make sure they were firing and replaced the coil and igniter (I call it coil pack) and once the truck warms up to normal operating tempature it will still not start up when turning the engine over by key.

I checked for error codes again now and there are no CEL error code. The last thing that I have not replaced that could be wrong according to the FSM is the ECU.

Any suggestion? I hate to keep replacing parts that are not bad. This thing is throwing me for a loop. Thanks

Yes i figured it out before i sold the truck. There is a round metal relay under the hood in the relay box that was shot. If you run the truck and get it where it will not start back up when the engine is hot, that round relay will be very hot. Its not supposed to be hot. I found one on ebay for 5 bucks and that fixed mymy problem. Let me see if i can find a picture for you of the relay. If memory serves me correctly it was the EFI main relay causing the issue.
