Assuming your truck is in the 3000-3500 pounds category, plus tow dolly, you're putting a lot of stress on your 3vze. BUT if you beefed it up with some aftermarket mods like headers and an exhaust I think it would make a significant difference and could be workable. But of course a new 5.7 L Tundra should be the obvious choice. I test drove one and that thing literally rag dolls the truck. And that is me test driving the heaviest configuration as well (crewmax 4x4 ltd).

The new Taco's with the 4.0 are up to the task for that much weight (about 4000 pounds). They're rated to tow 6500 pounds, but I wouldn't want to venture over 5000 myself personally.

hmm.. im tossing around if i want a reg cab tundra or a double cab taco. i would want a x runner but all those are in 6 speed manual and are not meant for towing.

For daily use I love my Tacoma but had I known I was going to be towing as much as I am I would have opted for the Tundra, hindsight is always 20/20
Just remember when towing anything to allow extra stopping distances and that you have got extra length for turns etc. Good luck!

BTW: i don't normally like low riders but if your '89 is your avatar, it looks like a nice truck
edit: sorry for the duplicate post--dunno why it did that (added thing about shoe's truck)
