Top End Rebuild

So I did not pass smog because my idle was way to high, the timing was off, and my emissions were off the charts. Upon further inspection I found I had no compression in the fifth cylinder. I was not sure if it was a ring or valve problem so I tested it. What I did was remove the #5 spark plug and put in about two ounces of oil and quickly ran another compression check, still nothing. I figured if it was a ring then the oil would have sealed it enough to get some compression and if it was the valve then nothing would have happened. I forgot where I heard about that test but it sounds legit. I need to know what kind of valves and cams I should get for my rebuild. I have a 90 3.0L 3VZE. Both heads are out and ready for the machine shop I just want to order all new guts. Any suggestions on what kind of parts I should use?

Toyota genuine factory valves for sure.
Too many horror stories about aftermarket valves stretching, and/or recessing into the seats, causing premature loss of valve clearance and consequent burning of valves.
Correct metallurgy of valves is critical, especially on engines that use bucket and puck adjustment like the 3vze does.
The chinese slave labor force does'nt care how long your truck runs.

The great likelyhood is that your camshafts will be found to be fit for continued service.
No reason to change them out 'just because you're in there'

There are few options for aftermarket high performance.

The Camshafts have visible damage, chips and cracks. Is Fel-Pro the go to gasket kit? How can I check the lower end so don't do all this only to find out the bottom end is messed up? Thanks for any advice. I love my truck, I am the second owner and it has 306,000 miles on it.

Well if the cams are damaged, you'll have to get something.
Maybe your machine shop man will have an informed opinion.
Could be that the heads themselves will be found wanting.
Most folks say that factory head gaskets are the only way to go.
I would double check the valve clearances when the heads come back from the shop and before head installation.
At over 300,000mi I would think a more complete rebuild might be in order, including the bottom end, especially if you intend on keeping the truck for any length of time.

I am planning full overhaul, I need it to limp down the road for a year before I garage her and rebuild the entire truck. I have a work truck so I only drive it on weekends. I want the most bang for my buck but am willing to skimp on some things for now. Could you suggest a website to order OEM valves from? Or just use a local dealership?

There are numerous genuine Toyota parts suppliers online.
All i can suggest is to shop around. You can often find some prices well under list.
Not every supplier has the lowest price on every part you need.
I often have had stuff come from multiple sources to get a job done for the fewest $$ with the highest quality parts.

I like to go to one of the many OEM Parts sites on the internet and get the part number that I want and put that number into Ebay's search engine to get an idea on prices..

They vary quite abit, but whether or not you buy at Ebay ya can get an idea of where the bottom dollar prices are on almost any part number ya throw at it..
