tire carrier for pickup

I've been looking into getting a junkyard tire carrier from like an isuzu rodeo or a blazer. One of the ones that mounts around the side of the SUV/truck and comes around the bed/cargo area.

Has anyone done this or have any pictures? Any recommendations for compatibility?

No one has any ideas? I can always keep the spares in the bed of the truck, but I'd like to keep the bed practical and not have the bed taken up. I have the spare under the bed, but I want a second spare (ya know, because crap happens.)

Seen a couple Toyota tire carriers adapted.

You have to weld in reinforcement behind the body panel, or build a bumper and add some support structures that come up that the tire carrier attaches to. The stock body panels will not attach.

You will also have to modify your tail gate to allow for the latching mechanism.

Again, more welding/body work.

I'd go with the toyota ones since those are likely to be closest to your width/body curves. Won't be a perfect match, but better than the others.

measure your bed then just the junkyard with tape measure in hand. I would also assume that a 4runner would be the closest. Iv heard that you would have to reinforce your bed corner to take the additional weight of the carrier both when locked and when its swung out. take pics of what you do, i have been thinking about doing this and would like to see it done.
