timing on 22ret

ok i went to set the timing on my 4ruuner last night,i let the yot warm up and then jumped the te1 and e1 taps together then hit it with a timing gun but the timing was the same with or without the pins jumped.arent the jumped pins spose to sort out the timing or im i just crazy!

Are you throwing any codes when you jump the connectors?

Sounds like a problem I had. You might need to try and adjust your TPS and get rid of that code before you can set your base timing.

I believe its a TPS code. You can search on how to adjust the TPS, but most people go to the 4crawler web sight for the info.

11 is "Switch Signal": TPS IDL contacts not closed, Neutral start switch on, or A/C on when diagnostic jumper inserted.
You may be able to rotate the TPS a little bit to see if the contacts will close and let you set the timing.
