tightening alternator belt

tightening alternator belt
Any magic tricks folks have found to getting the alternator belt tight on a 22re?
e.g. a particular place to use as a leverage point or nifty home-made tool to ease pulling it outward while maintaining a free hand to tighten the top bolt?
I'm failing to find a good access for this but I'm sure I'm overlooking something.

I just use a pair of adjustable joint pliers that can open their jaws wide. I tighten the adjustment bolt on the alternator just enough to that when I move it with the pliers, it will stay put. Then I put one pair of pliers jaws on the bolt, and the other on the end of the bracket. Then just tighten the pliers.
