Throwout bearing noise? (Video)
Hey all,
I recently picked up an '89 4x4 22-RE Pickup. It's my first truck, and so far this site has been extremely useful. I don't have too much experience working on cars/trucks, but I've done a decent amount of work on my motorcycles/thumpers in the past (pretty much everything but a bottom-end rebuild) so I'd say I'm pretty competent and I'm eager to learn. I've already replaced the front brakes/rotors, the alternator, battery, and I have new CV axles sitting in my garage ready to go in this weekend.
The purpose for this thread, however, is that the other day a whirring noise started whenever I would disengage the clutch (push in the pedal). It's silent when the clutch is engaged, and the noise is affected by the engine RPM. Here's a link to a short clip of the noise:

So, does that sound like the throwout bearing? To be honest I don't really know exactly what that is (need to read some more tonight), but from other posts/things online that seems it may be the culprit.
If it is the throwout bearing, is that something that should be replaced ASAP, or will it just continue to be noisy with no longer term damage? Other than this the clutch seems fine (feels smooth, previous owner replaced the clutch about 45k mi ago), so if it's fine to leave it in there I'll probably just wait until the clutch needs to be replaced.
Thanks!
