Throttle response
OK,Ive swapped the old engine(22RE rebuilt with Mallory dual point distributor high compression pistons and rings after market cam, after market intake manifold with Holley 4 barrel and headers, all which required me to use 100 + octane aviation fuel from the local Airport)for the new(stock 22R,with the after market intake manifold and Holley 4 banger, headers, and Mallory distributor, which runs off regular fuel)I also switched the stock Aisin hubs for Warns and kept the automatic tranny.I installed a PCV valve from the valve cover to a vacuum at the intake manifold and a hose from the crankcase hole to the air cleaner.Everything runs ten times better than the previous modified engine with one caviat. As I accelerate from the stop position and from each successive gear change in the tranny I have to feather the throttle, meaning tap it slowly,or the engine will hiccup, hessitate then accelerate until the RPMs climb to a point where it will respond normally.I put a spark sensor between the number one plug wire and the number one plug and when I throttle it manually by hand I see the spark subside until the RPMs kick up then the spark seems strong. What the &@%# is going on?

I'll bet you have a mixture problem over a spark problem... I'd put a simple narrowband 02 sensor in your exhaust system and see what's happening.. Those 4bbls aren't great at throttle transition points - is it right at the point where you engage the secondaries?

Throttle response diatribe
OK sorry bout the ramble, too many Guinnesses.Forget the preamble. From a dead stop and when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd,2nd to 3rd, the engine bogs and will choke unless I tap the gas until it reaches a certain speed then it will accelerate normally. It has a Holley 4 barrel carb on an after market intake manifold. Also has a Mallory dual point distributor.I just changed the points and condensor.I also changed the plugs.I have not messed with tha carb fuel air mix,nor tested the plug wires, cap, rotor or coil. This is literally my last problem after $2000 bucks I just sunk into this rig Ive had for three years.Initial purchase price was $3500.Im stoked to ride.
