thoughts on engine cleaning products

I'm replacing my timing chain (22RE). Before I ripped it apart, I sprayed Gunk "gel" engine cleaner on it and pressure washed it. It came out alright, but there has to be a more effective way to clean this thing.

The PO never fixed the front crank seal, so you can imagine how much oil is under there. I repaired the front crank seal about six months ago, and the rear main, three months ago, when I did my clutch. I hate oil leaks almost as much as I hate rust.

best idea would be a hot pressure washer and really heavy duty cleaning stuff
