I have a lightbar in th ebed of my 86 pickup. Im gonna install my KCs tomorrow. BUT I have a question. Was your wiring harness long enough to reach allthe way upfront to the battery? Or did you have to cut and mod your wiring harness?

Its easy, just soldure your connections and use heat shrink stuff.

or just use the plastic butt connectors.

what do I need to build my own harness? Never done that before, and i SUCK at electrical stuff. When it comes to that, I just buy the kits. i dont know what relays to use, where to get them, how to wire them or anything else. Building my own harness really isnt an option for me. Im tellin you..im horrible at electrical. Building my own harness would lead to 1 of 2 things..either it not working, or something catching on fire.

to do it right you'll need:

14 gauge Black wire (ground)
14 gauge red wire (Hot, lead)
14 gauge white wire (switch)
in line Fuse
30 amp (over kill for 2 lights but better be safe the sorry.) relay


run a small lead from your battery to the fuse, then to the pin on the relay marked 30.
crap i gotta run to work. i'll fiinish this info when i get home but in short

86 pin goes to the switch. switch
85 pin goes to ground
87 goes to the lights.

Or a relay and a continuous duty silonoid? i run 4 kc's and it works well.
