Those with a 2 piece rear driveshaft
u-joints need replaced from time to time especially on lifted or wheeled trucks. For those of us that have a 2 piece rear driveline we have 4 u joints in all. has anyone had the need to replace the 2 middle joints. I seem to have to replace my rear ujoint (one by third member) about every 18 months but seem to never touch the two in the middle u-joints by the carrier bearing. Just wondering if anyone has ever needed to replace those two.

No I never have had to do them either. I have had to do the hanger bearing though, big money. I am rebuilding another truck and plan on making it a single shaft.

If you're having to replace your rear joint that often, something is wrong. I have 218,000 miles on mine & have NEVER had to replace a u-joint. Do you grease them when you change the oil?

i replaced both front and rear u-joint in 2004 and did the rear joint about 18 months ago i would guess. Even with a 4 inch lift and wheelin it quit a bit with 33s wouldnt render a u-joint replacement every 18 months to much?

aaaaha that mite explain it Toy-Skitzo. I replaced stock rear end after it chipped pinion teeth. And had a "tru-trac" installed (which acts as a locker on flat/even ground although it dosent grab at all during daily driving.

Adjust you pinion angle to point at the center joints, and use a nice syn grease after every time you wheel.. I have never had a toyota u-joint go bad, even wheeling and lots of driving, 35's, 33's,... etc.. .and the TT is a LSD so it wont affect your u-joints. Just good grease.
