They all come out when it gets frigid...
...vehicle problems that is. Noticed a couple days ago I was getting a sporadic yet brief vibration from the front of my '88 4rnr. I could feel it through the gas pedal, and I only really noticed it when in 5th at cty hwy speeds. It felt like a dry metal-on-metal rub, and it disappeared as soon as it came. I drive a few miles more, listening and waiting for it to happen again, and I got to thinking about my hubs. I've had them locked in for a few months now, but haven't used 4wd in a while. I pulled over, unlocked them, and drove away without another sound, shimmy or vibration at all. Seems like that was my issue, but I'm kinda stumped on remedying it. I can't seem to clear enough snow and ice out from around my wheel/hub/axle to find it, but I could have sworn there was a grease fitting to keep the hub nice and gooped up. I know when the hub is dismantled you lather it in grease, but isn't there a zerk or fitting of some sort? Am I losing my mind? I can't find my manual, either, so any help would be ridiculously appreciated. It's fun driving in 2wd rear an hour to work in the snow, but not always
Thanks all!

When the hubs are locked, there shouldn't be any movement between the hub and the axle end i.e. it should be like having a drive flange, ive never heard of a hub causing a shimmy. If you dont have ADD on your truck, your front driveshaft spins when your hubs are locked even when youre not in 4wd, so I would check that.

Its fine. If everything is in proper working order, leaving your hubs locked will do nothing but wear out your componats from normal usage.
Perhaps some mud/ice caused an imbalance on the cv's or d-shaft..
And no, no grease fitting on the hubs, which only require a light coating of grease Way to many people pack these things full of grease and cause problems.
