Thermostat question

I replaced the thermostat in my 1994 22re 5spd 2wd. The only problem is now the temp gauge on the dashboard barely comes up off the lowest temp. I spoke to a mechanic and he said it was probably something to do with the balast's.

Before I replaced the therm it was locked on the lowest temp, now it atleast comes up a bit but the gauge still isn't correct. Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Either the wiring, connector, or the sending unit itself. Inspect the wiring for any damage. If you don't see anything obvious, then it's probably the sending unit. I know there's a way to check, not sure what that is at the moment. Never had to do it. Might run a forum search on that.

BTW, check the rating for your thermostat. It needs to be rated at 180*. Run a forum search on 22re thermostat.

I replaced it with an OEM therm, 90916-03078

I'll try searching again.

Try replacing the sending unit, i had one go bad and the gauge would read just above the cold line all the time. The new sending unit fixed the problem.
