temperature?

Ive got a 94 pickup just rebuilt with 1500 miles on it and I finally got a temperature gauge which is good. But i was woundering about what temp. do yall run normally or should i run? I know V8s run good at 180 to 210 but
dont know about 4cylinders

ALL modern engines perform BEST above 185 degrees and below about 205. Lower & they are running too cool, higher & you run the risk of spot overheating. THAT SAID, water temperature is only PART of the equation; coolant flowing too quickly will give you a lower temp but hotter head temps (bad), and water flowing too slowly will run the coolant temp too high. There are a lot of variables, radiator size/fan CFM/etc., not withstanding...

hmmm....nice...never thought of it like that....had no idea that coolant moving to fast would not cool the heads....

ok well i didnt know what to think about my 22re because i figured they would run alot cooler. Because i notice that my thermostat openes at 190f and then drops the temp to about 165-170 an then rises up again pretty fast and then openes again and so on an so forth. But it will open about 4 times in a matter of about 2 miles. is that bad or good?
