Temp gauge help
Hey everyone, having a problem. I have an 86 22r pickup with 250k on the clock and I'm in the middle of replacing my crank seal so I thought now would be a good time to ask about the problem I'm having. I recently replaced my temperature sensor because I felt it was reading too low, around the lower quarter of the gauge all the time. Now when I'm driving the gauge hover right below the upper white line. Fluids are all okay and and wiring seems to be fine, so I have no clue why it is doing this. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance if anyone has trouble picturing what I'm describing.

I dunno if the 22re has the same sensor that my 3vze has but there is one ECT(engine coolant temperature sensor) and another engine coolant temperature sender which sends the temp read out to the dash. Both are completely different my gauge was doing that for a year but i was too lazy to fix it but it turned out to be the Temp sender.

Usually just pulling the sensor and giving it a good cleaning from all of the build upon it solves alot of my problems with them.Try cleaning your old one and see if that fixes or makes anything change. Did you get an aftermarket or non Toyota sensor? Alot of the parts store parts are junk any more in my opinion.

You didn't by chance use some thread tape on it maybe, looks like it in the photo, You'll need to remove that if so it needs to contact the metal to get a good ground signal.
And yes the ECT is two wires, isolated ground from ECM. All the others (AT,Guage) are one wire and use the mout for ground.
If they asked you which manufacturer for your guage and you weren't sure you might need the other one. I recall there being two different ones.
