Technical help please
Hey all, I am putting a Mark VIII electric fan in my 1991 3.0 4runner. I'll post pics of how I fit it into the original shroud, and also the dimensions and #'s of the replacement belts + a mini write up on just the stuff pertaining to the Mark VIII fan.
My issue is, while I was consulting the fsm on the importance of a protruding bolt, I saw the little bit on SETTING NO.1 CYLINDER AT TDC/COMPRESSION. So I checked mine and the notch on the pulley is opposite of the 0 on the No.1 timing belt cover. when I go to adjust it, it lets me turn it (in either direction) a little bit then comes to a stopping point to where it springs back if I try adjust it any more. Is that normal or is it possibly the sign of something worse?
Thanks for any help
Also, my little boy is begging me to use this guitar smiley, so here you go:

it sounds like thats just the compression of the motor holding it back. Put a little more back into it and it should turn some then kinda pop into a spot like that again. if you really cant get it to turn then there might be something there but it sounds like you just need to push harder.

First make sure the gear box is in neutral, trying to turn the engine is really hard otherwise. And then if it's still hard it's most likely the compression, it's easier if the plugs are out.

Thanks for the reply guys!!!!!
I was doing some thinking on it...... Is it supposed to always be stopped on that 0 line? Also. what are the consequences of starting it in the wrong position (180degrees from the 0)? Forgive me if they're lame questions, I don't know as much as I would like when it comes to my truck.

Well I put it neutral and it worked great. I was able to turn it to 0 easily. Thanks for the help.
Any ideas on how it would have been 180 degrees from the 0 mark?

No, you can turn the engine by hand to any setting you want. As long as the timing belt isn't broken all the parts will turn together. Like js9924 said it'll stop where ever it stops, each time will be different.
