I would rather haul my 4wheeler in the bed of my truck, than on a trailer. I know my truck will hold my 4 wheeler(ATV), I'm just worried about my tailgate. My 4wheeler weighs 438 lbs. dry, and I weigh about 210. I'm not sure if it can handle the weight of the 4wheeler, let alone me on top of it loading it. Also, I have a toolbox so the back axle will sit on the tailgate. I just don't want to f up my tailgate. Any help is much appreciated.

i have a yfz 450 that weighs 350 pounds, and it is supported fine, but i dont ride it up i lift it up.

I had a friend who loaded his polaris 500, and a 90's 125 into the back of his yota. The 125 was strapped onto the back basically on the tailgate.

My TRX400EX sits on my tailgate pretty well.
when i load/unload the quad rides onto/off of the tailgate.
i haven't had any issues.

i rode a sportsman 500 into the bed of my '86 ex cab..about 12 times over a 3 or 4 week period and my tailgate bent quite a bit..it stick outs about .5" on one side more than the other..and when the tailgate is lowered..it doesnt sit flat anymore..it sits about 2 or 3 inches lower..LOL..idk how much it weighed..but i weigh about 210

i wish there was a way to beef-up the mounting system for these tailgates.
they're kinda flimsy lol

yea no joke..LOL..and we we're muddin the trucks as well as the 4wheelers...and it was like 5* outside..water got on my tailgate..froze that dude shut and i wasnt thinking at the time..and i broke the handle tryin to get her open..damnit.LMAO

last year my locks would always freeze up on me, or i'd get stuck to the ground and have to 4low/popclutch to get it out...

Those are considerably heavier than mine, or atleast my friend's is. He has an 05, his weighs like 730 lbs. dry. So technically, I should be okay?

then again i'm just used to my light sports quad lol.

750 is fine to haul in the bed.

I haul a sport quad Honda 400EX around on the tail gate a lot. Never had an issue with weight. But I wouldnt push your luck! =)

You could cut a piece of 1/2 plywood long enough to cover the bed and tail gate and up against the tool box.

That way the weight would be supported more even over the whole bed 2 vice grip c clamps could secure the back end while loading and unloading.

Another option if you have a receiver Hitch cobble up an adjustable support to support the tail gate . Or just figure out what you need and make it that length. Of course supporting across most of the width of the tail gate.

just some ideas.

There is another picture of that setup floating around... its even more scary once you realized how big the trailer is, and how small that truck is!!!

It's not in front of me right now, but I seem to recall that the owner's manual for my truck says something about a 120 pound limit on the pick up tailgate. Good luck.

why dont you just lift the tail gate up and remove the metal support bars.. and then let the tailgate rest down as far as it goes and then lift over it and then reassemble? takes seconds mine opens up basically 180 degrees without the catch bars makes life easy at the local landfill for sweeping the bed out
