Tacoma console (cup holders) swap into a 1st gen 4runner
In my list of future modifications I really wanted to swap in a center console from a 2001-2004 tacoma so that I can have some decent cup holders. I was not exactly planning on doing this soon, but I always keep an eye out. Well yesterday I saw an ad on craigslist and a guy was parting out a 2002 tacoma with a gray interior. Called him up, he still had the center console, gave him $50 and here I am now.
Now I have seen a lot of really disgusting things in my life, but this console, I believe, takes the cake.... It was completely infested with little brown german roaches, and covered in black tar-like-goo. I took all of today to take the entire thing apart and clean it/disinfect it. Besides the goo, and the roaches the console is structurally sound, but it will need a new coat of vinyl dye.
Anyway, the console is going to fit.... with a little bit of customization. But my biggest problem is that my shifter bezel is to narrow to match the tacomas. So, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the 89-95 shifter bezel a little bit wider. If someone has one could you measure the width, and let me know. I want to try and get this thing in a few days so any help would be appreciated.

I have been trying to find the best solution to this issue since I got my 85 a few years back. I have yet to find anything that I like, or anything that looks like it will work for me.
I am curious to see how this works out for you as I have never seen anyone install one from that year range.

I'm not home right now but I have an 89 1st gen. I'll try to remember to get some pix and measurements in the a.m. I also have a mint Tacoma bezel with the cup holders. It's from a 2WD though. Is that what you have? I've never seen them for a 4WD but I haven't examined a lot of Tacomas either. If you do a search here for the big cup holder thread someone near the end has done this mod but he isn't active any more.

put a taco console in my 2nd gen PU when i did the engine swap.
my truck has the SR5 interior.
i bought a new console so i avoided the roach and tar thing.
i think it was for an 01 taco.
i did have to modify it front and back to fit like i wanted. the front i added(JB-Weld) a piece from the stock console, about 2", so it would bolt to the original mounts. it added another pocket for stuff too.
for the back i cut a piece of stock console, about an inch wide, to cover a gap to the console between the seats and glassed it in from underneath.
looks factory you have to look close to see a little different gray from the epoxy.
look at the video from the link in my sig. i went manual to automatic swap, but it should work the same with a manual console.

I still have not completely mounted everything, but I have it mocked in place. all of the factory brackets do not work and must be removed, you might could modify them to work, but it is a no go as far as bolting it in.
I tried to use a shifter bezel from a 2nd gen 4runner, and it did not work. So I got a bezel from a tacoma and it fits like a glove. here is a pic of it mounted.
Im really happy with the results, it looks like it came from the factory like this, which is exactly how I like it.
please excuse the amp power wire, it was just there for the picture...

Any other info on this? I did the swap on my (now sold) 93 4runner and the shift bezel worked with the Tacoma center console. It was the same width.
Did the shift bezel brackets not line up or something?
How was the Tacoma one different?
Im about to do the same swap on my newly acquired 89 4runner

I had to make custom brackets for it to mount properly and I had to buy a tacoma shift bezel because the 2nd gen 4runner bezel did not fit the way I wanted it to.
