Swapping parts from 2nd gen to 3rd

My 86' turbo pickup has a great list of parts but the frame and cab have cancer along with bootyfabbed exo cage. Instead of spending all my time with a rig down rebuilding it over time and making it a true truggy with all tube from cab back and 3 or 4 link front. I've been contemplating getting a 3rd gen ext cab and building it the way I want and swapping all the parts over when its ready . I know the axles will work along with tcases but will swapping over all the turbo crap, motor harness ,and r151 be a pita? I could always go with a megasquirt system but don't want any headaches on the trail. (This is not a street driven rig)Or would finding a clean 2nd gen roller be a better idea? I love both body styles but want the room of the ext cab 3rd gen or i'm gonna cut the back of my cab off

It really comes down to how much work you want to put into it. The biggest part of the job will be the motor and harness swap, you will probable end up custom fabing motor mounts and cross members, but if you can do all of this your self its just a matter of putting in the time to do it. Or if you want to go the easier route, then find a 2nd gen roller and go from there.
