You can swap the tail-shaft from your R150 on to the 7M-GTE 5-speed (R154) so that it mates to the stock transfer case.

Here is a whole website dedicated to swapping the Supra inline 6 cyl into a toyota truck.

Personally I would not want a 7M in my truck.
You want your truck to be reliable, right? Don't put a 7M in it. I hang out with a bunch of people with MK3 Supras, I've had one myself. Even the ones with lots of money in them are breaking all the time. If you do go 7M, be sure to keep about a dozen headgaskets with you. A couple of my friends have gone 1JZ, the others wish they could.

ok, thanks for your replies!
The thing is, I HAVE to swap the entire driveline (both axles, gearbox and tranfercase) to be able to get the truck legal with another engine then the 3vze...that sucks, but its the truth. So I was thinking if there are any driveline swaps that are more resonable then others... Thanks for the diesel tip, I will take that in mind. Also, dosnt hks make metall hg,s for the 7m? Ive heard that you can actually make that engine bulletproof with a metall hg and arb studs? Thanks again for all your help, and to this great forum

I have no idea if anything was sold with the 3.4 5VZ-FE form the Tacoma and 4Runner in your area, but the swap would entail far less fabrication on your part. You also might be able to skirt the rest of the driveline by showing the authorities that the 3.4 driveline uses the same components.
Take a look in the 3.4 section of motor swaps - that might give you a better idea abut whether it's feasible, or not.

Well, my point with the diesel and the 22re is that they put those engines in your generation 4runner, so would you still have to do a drivetrain swap at that point ??

You're going to be hard pressed fitting a 7M Drivetrain into a pickup. The 7M-GTE only came in a MA70 Supra, which was only available with IRS. There was a guy in BC that was working on installing the Supra's IRS into a pickup, but I never followed it, so I don't know if he ever finished.
Oh, and yes HKS, as well as Cometic, and a few other companies make metal head gaskets for the 7M. Yes, it solves the head gasket issue, but make sure you get the head and block properly machined first, and install a good set of head studs. Last edited by annoyingrob; 11-16-2008 at 03:29 PM. |
