Surging idle

Surging idle
I have a 93 pickup with a 3.0 v6 I put a new MAF Meter and it still surges. (Keep in mind I did this because my original one was broken) on cold starts it idles at 1,500 rpm and than comes down to around 850 but it surges from 850 to around 1,000 rpm is there something wrong or is this how it's supposed to work. I am not new to cars or motors just never seen another vehicle of mine do this. Thanks.

Does it only do it when up to temp? I just yesterday fixed this issue on my 3.0. There is an idle air control valve inside the throttle body that acts like a thermostat. It let's air bypass the throttle plate when cold and it closes when warm to let the motor idle down.
The crankcase vents into the intake tube which gets a whole metric crap-ton of gunk it there and over time it will clog up the valve. What I did was remove the throttle body and cleaned it out really good with carb cleaner and sprayed a bunch into the valve.
You can just search "3vze iac cleaning" or something similar for more info of what I'm talking about.
