The CV shaft angles are low, so it looks like one could go mad with spacers on after market control arms...Lowering the bump stops, ect.

Well this dudes got a V8 and claims 4 wheel burnouts... And more suspension travel... So he, and some others just might dis agree with you and your opinion on IFS, and it's varying degrees of suckage

Jury's still out... IIRC, the Cressida was once a 7.5" and at some point went to 8"

And that is DEFINITELY an early Supra, IF it even is from a Supra, b/c the ears are gone that are used to mount it under the body...


What was that 7.5" car diff that has a limited slip that's a mod to put under IFS trucks here?

when junkyarding, the axle code you want to look for is F**3 (f=7.5" ring gear, last digit 3=lsd) - if you were looking for an LSD for the back of your truck, the axle code would be G**5 (G=8" ring gear, 5=lsd) - on the front, keep all the diff bearing shims. you can mix and match between the supra and 4runner to get proper backlash and it is damn hard finding those shims (neither dealer I called could get them, maybe a machine shop or company such as Yukon can)

a relatively easy swap though, especially if you are keeping the stock gearing, my whole swap cost ~$80 including fluids and the diff from a Pick-A-Part (had it out of the donor in 30minutes)

I just dont find it practical. Going from IFS to SFA, I'd never go back. Unless it was a severe long travel for hauling ass. When it comes to crawling, and any kind of wheeling aside from high speed, I'm completely satisfied with my SFA vs my old IFS.
Old IFS was also done up. BJ spacers, locked 7.5, slight tbar crank, blah blah.

ifs has its use and sfa has it use, ifs is for high speed desert runnin and sfa is for slower trail ridin and much slower rock climbin..

i like it, it sounds like its a really good setup.. for ifs lol. only problems i see is the fact that when you break part it, parts will be harder to find? seems like that 8" diff is hard to get? but its a really cool alternative to sas.

now i would only do this if i could run it without a bracket lift, because i just hate how bracket lifts look personally lol. and i still think SAS looks way more badass and there are tons of mods and parts for solid axle yotas. but i still really like this "new ifs" thing but im still going to SAS

If I had a rig that saw lots of on-road, without a doubt I'd go IFS.

And I love solid axles.


I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This IFS, in my not-so expert opinion, is THE best mass-produced IFS ever put on a truck. The second best overall only to the Hummer H1 fully independent suspension with its geometry, coil springs and portal axles.

You got to admit, most of the bad wrap is in the front diff... This only solves that.

B/c really, the low amount of factory travel and the 7.5" diff are the only limiting factors to this IFS in the 1st place.

If I had to chose a form of IFS to wheel with, Toyota Torsion bar would probably be last on my list.
Ford Twin-Traction Beam is probably some of the best Mass Produced IFS for wheeling in my opinion.
Just got done building a Bronco II with TTB. Thing amazes me where it will go with just a custom 4" bracket lift, and 33s. Articulates amazing for IFS.

You're joking, right? And the TTB is where, today?

As long as TTB never touches to pavement so it can kill the tires with negative camber tire wear, TTB is just fine...

And call the aligner ahead of time to make sure he's got the special forks needed to align it.



TTB has way more in common with the suspension on a Karmann Ghia than a SA 4WD.

Also see Pinz, or Tatra.
