stupid high idle question
I have a 1994 DLX with a 22re and 5sp. It only has 328K miles on it so I am still breaking it in...
Yesterday the truck started idling at over 2000 rpm. I had this problem a year ago and found that the little pot that keeps the throttle from snapping back quickly to the full stop position was sticking. This thing is just a spring loaded device covered by a rubber boot but on mine the rubber boot is shot and dirt has gotten in making it hard to operate. I can push the throttle back to the stop by hand.
So here's the stupid question: What the heck is that little throttle stop cushion called? I have been searching on line and cannot for the life of me figure it out so I can order a new one. Anyone out there got a part number for it?
Thanks,
Kip

The FSM calls it a VTV, sorry I'm not positive what that stands for - variable throttle valve? It's part of the Dash Pot system, related to emissions and supposed to slowly close the throttle (over about 1 second) to keep you from backfiring I think.
From FSM:

Vacuum Transmitting Valve. But it's an integral part of the Dash Pot on later engines. That pic is from, I assume, the 85 FSM. So it doesn't apply.
If you're looking for the part # for the Dash Pot it's 22202-35271. If not, what the heck "little throttle stop cushion" are you talking about?

I can at least call the local dealer now without sounding totally uniformed.
Thanks again,
Kip
