stupid clear coat

My clear coat on my 4Runner is starting to come of the roof Is there any thing I can do to prevent it from spreading, or to repair it?

I'm not so sure there is anything you can do at this point...

Is it the factory paint that's peeling off?

I had one fender repainted on my truck and that is the only one that is actually peeling off. The rest of the factory paint is holding up fine.

Except for the parts that I over waxed and polished. My hood and roof are fading away to nothing...

I think the only thing you could possibly do to stop it is to sand and reapply the clear. That could get messy though and end up looking worse...

You're gonna have to get it all sanded off and repaint with the base coat and clear again...I've saw this before in the body shop I worked in and thats the procedure we had to do to get it right.

Resurrecting an old thread... This is a big problem in the hotter climates, the southwest apparently- CA, AZ, NM & TX. The clear coat de-bonds from the base coat and chips up. I have this on my hood and roof, see it on a lot of similar gen yotas around here. The hood needs replacement anyways, but the roof needs to be fixed. Any new info on a fix? I'd rather only have to shoot clear if I can get away with it. callmej75 can you give more details on the repair?

And before anyone says, YES I've done about five searches already and this thread is the best place for this.

Bring back this old post.
I have a '00 4Runner with 187K miles on it.
Just noticed today a cloudy circle on my fender near the hood that the clear coat has cracked in. Also have similar spot on my hood scoop.

Is this happening to others? I guess the only think to do is to deal with it and repair the scoop (and maybe the hood) and fenders in the future?

My wifes '01 Honda Accord has the same issue!
