The fuel filter on my '89 is stuck. I've tried several times with the biggest vice grips I could fit up there (3.0 so its on the frame rail). No idea how old the thing is. At this point, the only thing I know to do is to cut the darn thing off and try to splice a new one in there but not entirely sure the best approach. Just looking for some advice if someones been through this before.

Never done the 3. filter, here is a link on the correct way https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ctures-218962/ It looks to have the same connections as what I have changed. Try soaking the metal hose with PB Blaster. You are using hose wrenches arent you? If you have stripped it already, it may require vise grips. If that is the case, try gently tightening it a little and then loosen. Might even working in a tight/loosen pattern several times.

If you're just twisting on the filter, then you can easily wind up the fuel line. If you're twisting on the flare nut, you've crushed it long ago, and if you can get it off it will never re-seal. The flare nuts are brass and not too strong; you need to use a flare nut wrench to remove them.

Since the fuel line is flared, you can't just replace the flare nut, you're going to need to replace the line. Whether going fore or aft, there isn't a whole lot of line, so replacing it is not a big deal (just get rid of those vice grips!)

Already tried soaking in penetrating oil for a few days, no go. Originally tried flare nut wrench but put some much torque on it that it started slipping then went to the vices. I'd go to the torch next...but being the fuel line....figured wouldn't be the best move! I've given up trying to save it at this point. I'm just not sure how to go about replacing it. Can I splice in a section of fuel line or do I need to replace the entire section?

This is why I replace my fuel filter every spring

A few different ways to do this .

Replace the metal line to where it ends.

splice in a new filter using fuel injection hose and clamps I have never been able to find barbed fittings to fit the filter .If anyone knows let me know.

So I have used new flare nuts and short sections of tubing to the fuel injection line

It all comes down to the condition of the rest of the line.
